USS Sport Education Academy Info 9.18.24
Dear U.S. Ski & Snowboard Coaches & Club Leaders,
It is with great excitement that we now announce: THE SPORT EDUCATION ACADEMY IS OFFICIALLY OPEN!
Many of you have already explored the Sport Education Academy in its “soft launch” phase while we worked on building out educational content (and, with your help, identified & patched some bugs). To these folks, thank you for being a part of making this platform better for everyone. To everyone else, welcome aboard!
All coach members are required to enroll in the Sport Education Academy. There are no exceptions. |
ALL COACHES
- Purchase U.S. Ski & Snowboard Coach Membership in your sport
- Complete SafeSport Training (instructions will come from Member Services via email)
- Complete Background Check if necessary (occurs every other year, instructions will come from Member Services via email if you need to do this for the 2024-25 season)
NOTE: Completion of these steps will bring Coach Membership to “Current” status.
- Enroll in Sport Education Academy at Bronze Tier
- Use U.S. Ski & Snowboard Membership account credentials to log in.
- Complete Safety Requirements - DO NOT DO THIS UNTIL MEMBERSHIP IS RENEWED FOR 24-25 SEASON (must have purchased 24-25 membership & completed membership requirements outlined above)
- Avalanche Awareness (brief course that used to be a part of the Coach Membership requirements)
- First Aid & CPR (enter details of CURRENT certification – may enter same cert details for both First Aid and CPR if both topics were covered by the same training – confirmed annually, usually updated every 2 years, links to recommended trainings provided in the assignment)
- Concussion (enter details of Heads Up or other concussion training – training only needs to be completed once, certification details confirmed annually)
NOTE: Coaches who have previously completed a minimum of a Level 100 Coach Certification will see “CERTIFIED COACH - LEVEL #00 - ACTIVE” on their member dashboard at this point. If that’s not the case, email [email protected].
Certified Coaches have no additional preseason action items.
However, Certified Coaches are required to earn Continuing Education before the end of the season. Review the Continuing Education Framework for more information. Completing Continuing Education will require upgrading the Sport Education Academy to the Gold subscription tier. For Coaches that are employed by Clubs that reimburse for Coach Education, we recommend that you check in with Club leadership prior to making purchases on the Sport Education Academy. We have launched our Club Bulk Discount program for Sport Education Academy subscriptions, and your Club may prefer that you enroll in that manner.

NON-CERTIFIED COACHES
- Upgrade Sport Education Academy subscription to Gold Tier
- Complete Coaching Fundamentals (updated & abbreviated from earlier versions and the next step in obtaining a Level 100 certification)
NOTE: Once a not-yet-certified coach member completes Coaching Fundamentals, they will see “CERTIFIED COACH - IN PROGRESS” on their member dashboard.
- RECOMMENDED: Level 100 Coach Certification courses in specific sports are now available on the Sport Education Academy. All presently non-certified coaches are required to complete their Level 100 Coach Certification by the end of the 2025-26 season, which means you’ll have the duration of this (24-25) season and next (25-26) to finish your online study and attend a Level 100 on-snow/in-person assessment that works for you. The assessment calendar will be published mid-October.

JUNIOR COACHES
ALPINE/XC ONLY (15-17 yo as of 12/31/24)
Junior Coaches should follow all of the steps outlined above, minus the background check and upgrade to an SEA Gold subscription. Junior Coaches may remain at the Silver tier. Once a Junior Coach has completed Coaching Fundamentals, they technically have no further requirements for the 2024-25 season.
Junior Coaches may pursue the full Level 100 Certification educational track, including the online coursework and the on-snow/in-person Assessment. A reminder that they must upgrade to Gold in order to do so. Junior Coaches will be able to see their educational history, including their completed Level 100 Certification, on a rolling basis like adult coaches do. However, a Junior Coach’s Certification Status on their Membership ID will be “In Progress” until they turn 18 and can clear a background check.
Junior Coaches must complete the Safety Requirements on an annual basis, but they have no additional ongoing requirements. Coaching Fundamentals is completed once (though it may be retaken, if desired). Junior Coaches are not required to earn Continuing Education, though they are certainly welcome to.
